Communication
Consistent communication between parents, teachers and administration contributes to a student’s success in school. Please do not use dismissal time for conferences with your child’s teacher. Teachers are responsible for the safety of the students in their class and cannot discuss your child with you at this time. We want to make sure that your concern receives the attention it deserves. Please take advantage of the avenues of communication listed on this page:
1
Email Communication
Please submit a clearly written e-mail address so that we can distribute information to you in a timely manner. Teachers are asked to check their work mail at the beginning and of their work day. Do not expect email responses during the school day as your child's teacher is engaged in active instruction. If there is an urgent matter, please call the Main Office at (212) 678-2857 and speak to a member of the office staff.
2
Backpack Mail
Backpack mail is the most direct system of communication between parents and teachers. Important information is sent home via backpack most days by your child’s teacher and sometimes by the school administration. There should be a designated folder that your child uses to bring home mail. After every school day, parents should get into the routine of checking that folder for any notes from the teacher, or school information. Parents should also use this folder to send notes to the teacher with dismissal routines, meeting requests or other questions or concerns.
3
School App
Whether you have an iPhone or an Android, we ask that you download the PS 145 school app! With the app, you can receive the latest school announcements as well as download and fill out important school forms. Please make sure you turn on your notifications or check the app regularly so you don't miss important dates and events.
4
Social Media
Follow the school on Instagram to see what the students are up to, and to be informed of upcoming events. Our Instagram handle is ps145m. Follow us on Twitter for up-to-date information regarding school and NYCPS activities and information. Our Twitter handle is PS145M.

Class Parents
Every class will have two parent representatives who will help distribute information from the teacher and coordinate parent involvement for class projects, trips, etc. Class Reps will create and distribute a contact list for the class. At Back to School Night, please let your child's teacher know if you are interested in volunteering as a class parent for your their class. It's a great way to getinvolved and get to know some of the other families if you're not the most social person in the world.
6
Class Newsletters
A class newsletter is distributed every other month by your child’s teacher. The newsletter will include a brief summary of the curriculum that is being covered as well as news of upcoming class events and field trips. In addition, each newsletter is personalized for your child to include information about his/her most recent assessments and how you can help at home.
6
Parent Engagement
Teachers will create a Zoom Link for Parent Engagement times to meet with parents individually. If you wish to meet with your child’s teacher during that time, please feel free to make a verbal request, email or send a note with him/her by backpack mail to schedule a meeting ahead of time with your child’s teacher.
