Principal's Message
Dear P.S. 145 Family,
I am thrilled to begin my 12th school year as Principal of P.S. 145 The Bloomingdale School. We are dedicated to providing your child with the best possible academic and socio-emotional experience possible. I am confident that the entire P.S. 145 staff is committed to providing the support that is needed for all of our learners to excel.
It is our whole-hearted belief that children will experience academic success when they have a positive self-image, which is why we provide a variety of opportunities for them to develop confidence and self-esteem. Whether it is through academics, performing arts, visual arts, fiber arts, health & wellness or athletics, our staff brings their variety of talents to the table to give our kids the most well-rounded school experience.
We are all staunch believers in the importance of multilingualism as a necessary component to develop not only critical thinkers but to raise global citizens who respect people from all walks of life and all corners of the world.
The staff’s common mission is to use what we learn about your child on a daily basis in the classroom to meet their needs, both academically and socially. We provide enrichment opportunities for students who are quick to master a topic as well as academic support to students who may struggle in either literacy or mathematics.
We are a close-knit family that extends beyond the walls of the school which is what makes P.S. 145 a unique place to learn. We look forward to another successful school year and many exciting opportunities to see our children shine.
Sincerely,
Dr. Natalia Garcia
Principal

My Story
As a life-long member of the Upper West Side, working in the very neighborhood I grew up in is particularly meaningful to me as an educator. I grew up with many privileges not many children have because of the strong family support I have always had. A small independent Episcopalian school St. Hilda's and St. Hugh's offered this child of two Ecuadorian immigrants a quality education which set the rock solid foundation I carried with me throughout the years as I found my way in life.
The love of reading, writing and the arts was inculcated in me at a young age and ultimately it is those loves that we at P.S. 145 seek to foster in all of our students. It is for that reason that all our students benefit from not only excellent Literacy and Math instruction but they are able to feed their little artistic souls with music, dance, visual arts, fiber arts, culinary lessons, and film making.
I have had the honor of working for some of the most amazing principals in CSD 3 and have always strived to implement what I have learned during my 22 year journey in the NYC Department of Education. P.S. 145 is a compilation of best practices from the various schools I have had the privilege of working in. Over the years, we have put together an amazing staff, all who love children and work towards their best interests. Teachers who work at P.S. 145 know that the expectations are high but the rewards are great.
At P.S. 145 we take very seriously the responsibility of educating your child and we value the confidence you entrust in us when you walk your children past our doors each and every day. We pledge to send home a stronger, smarter, more mature, more confident child every day and we look forward to partnering with you in this journey of your child's primary educational years.
